THE CAFTAN WOMAN BLOGATHON - HONORING PATRICIA NOLAN-HALL

Patricia Nolan-Hall

The Caftan Woman Blogathon – Honoring Patricia Nolan-Hall will be hosted here at Lady Eve’s Reel Life and at Jacqueline's Another Old Movie Blog on Friday, May 6th.

On March 7th, the classic film blogger world lost one of its great writers and champions of classic film, Patricia Nolan-Hall, also known as Caftan Woman, the name of her delightful blog.  You can visit her blog here.

Paddy was very supportive of other bloggers, and eagerly contributed to many blogathons, always graciously commenting on the posts of others.  It seems fitting to celebrate her time with us with a special blogathon in her honor.

Here’s a banner to post on your blog to advertise the blogathon. (The photo of Paddy is courtesy of her sister, Maureen Nolan, used by permission.)

The range of topics on which to write is wide open, since Paddy’s interest and knowledge of pop culture was quite broad.  You might post on a movie or TV show she liked and wrote about, a genre you both loved, or about any topic she discussed on her blog (it wasn’t always about TV or movies), or about a comment she might have left on your own blog. Or you may post on any music, TV, or films from the silent film era through the 1960s, or spotlight stars or character actors from those decades.  Share your memories, the laughs, and the inspiration of this witty and kindly woman.

You can name your topic by leaving a comment on this post.  A blogathon page with all the entries will be posted at Another Old Movie Blog and Lady Eve’s Reel Life on Friday, May 6th.  When you publish your post, link back to that page and leave a comment with your link so we can update the roster.

Be sure to visit each other’s posts and comment.  You know Paddy would.

  2. As I have already mentioned, I think this idea of a blogathon in memory of Patricia Nolan-Hall is a wonderful one, and I would very much like to participate. I'd like to blog about Union Station (1950), starring William Holden.

  5. Thanks for putting this tribute together! I see Paddy contributed to the ebook “The Ida Lupino Files”, writing about a few episodes of The Fugitive that Lupino directed. I’d like to contribute to the blogathon with an essay on some aspect of Lupino’s directing career—precise topic still TBD.

  10. This is great--I was hoping someone would honor Paddy like this. I'd like to write about "The Patsy," please. Paddy reviewed it for Gill's and my Odd or Even Blogathon in January and we had a good time. My blog is Taking Up Room (http://takinguproom.wordpress.com).

  12. There's really only one thing I can do for this event; an episode of a series on my blog called "Story Time." This one will be titled "Caftan Woman's Sports Education: A Prime Example of Her Support For Bloggers." For those familiar with my blog https://dubsism.com/ they will understand this pretty quickly. For those who aren't, tune in on May 6th!

  15. I've chosen my topic. Was just discussing on Twitter last night the greatness of the movie Ride the High Country, and I see it was one of Paddy's favorite Westerns. So please put me down for that. Thanks!

  17. Hello! This is a wonderful idea, I'm sure Patty would've been delighted. I've been giving some thought to my topic, and I'd like to write about some of the hardworking supporting actors of the silent era--people who were in literally hundreds of films. People as prolific as Caftan Woman, in other words! ;)

  18. This is awesome, she is dearly missed. Could I talk about the importance of supporting fellow bloggers, leaving comments, sharing stuff, and generally having this sense of belonging in the classic film community and how she contributed to that? I know this is a bit vague and someone has probably already thought of this, but I would like to talk about Paddy's efforts and how she's affected so many people. If this is not OK, put me down as TBD and I'll get back to you with another topic! :)

    Thanks!

  19. Hosting a blogathon is a wonderful way to honor Paddy. I'd like to cover "The Proud Rebel" ( 1958 ) if I may? Paddy wrote about for one of my Olivia de Havilland blogathons and I know she adored the film as much as I do.

  20. Hello! I'm so glad this blogathon is going ahead. I'm happy to contribute a post about an early film of Harry Carey, Sr (TBD). Paddy was a big fan of Westerns, and one year we both wrote about the Carey family (!), so this has special meaning for me.

I'd like to write a review of Joan Crawford as Crystal Allen in "The Women."
This could be a tribute to Paddy and for Joan, who will have passed away 45 years ago May 10. Let me know either way. Cheers, Rick
