Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in Charade (1963) |
Thinking of Paris and all of France today, and of films that evoke my own deep affection for that great city and beautiful country.
"Bonjour, Paris," Fred Astaire, Audrey Hepburn and Kay Thompson in Funny Face (1957)
Margo Martindale in Alexander Payne's charming vignette from Paris, je t'aime (2006)
at Rick's Cafe Americain in Casablanca (1942)
...and closing with scenes of Paris and its people accompanied by Sidney Bechet's "Si Tu Vois Ma Mere," the the main theme from Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris (2010).
Good choices! We were in Paris in the early 90's and the city was everything I ever imagined it would be. The museums, the food and the ambiance all were what you would expect.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John, the movies included are some of my favorites. I love Paris, it fulfilled all my expectations, too. Of course.
DeleteLovely tribute. It's been several years since I've been to Paris, but these images have brought back some wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear of recent events. Thank you for posting this.
Thank you, Ruth. Yes, these images, especially the more recent ones, bring back fond memories of Paris..
DeleteThank you for this tribute to Paris after its tribulations Lady Eve. I never fail to get choked up after the "La Marseillaise" scene in Casablanca. Anyway, we'll be able to explore such films more in depth next July, n'est-ce pas?
ReplyDeleteOui, Christian, and it will be perhaps more meaningful than we imagined when we first considered a Bastille Day blogathon. Now I'm thinking we may want to announce it sooner rather than later.
DeleteMerci, TLE. My favorite city, and you showcase it well with favorite scenes of the city. Someone said recently that they just don't want to travel anymore. I responded by saying I would return to Paris and hopefully several times before I die.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear from you, CFB! I agree, I would return to Paris at every possible chance.
